For the state of Florida that is available at Florida Online Historical Newspapers Summary.
My updates are semi-annual or annual, depending on how much has been changed. For example, my most recent Florida update was in January, 2015.
I want to make you aware of a terrific resource for Florida historic newspapers that can help you.
The University of Florida has created an outstanding resource that is more frequently updated and has some nice features that can help you hone in on your newspaper of choice. And that is the Florida Digital Newspaper Library. It provides some of the historical newspapers for the state available online in a variety of collections (currently about 2 million newspaper pages). There also are a variety of features on the site that are very helpful for online searching.
The features include a map browse and map search capability, where one can select a geographical area from a map and search only the titles available in that selected area. A very handy feature.
Additional sub-collections include:
- Digital Military Library
- Ethnic Newspapers from Florida
- Historic News Accounts
- Florida Jewish Newspapers
- Florida and Puerto Rico Project
The Florida Digital Newspaper Library from the University of Florida is an excellent resource for finding articles about your Florida ancestors. It also has quite a few newspapers from other states as well. I heartily encourage you to make use of this wonderful site.
For free links for other states, please check out the Newspapers! Page on The Ancestor Hunt site.
