I have known about this new site for a couple of months and am just now getting into it. I will be adding links to my state by state link list over time. It is quite a project as there are 600 titles. At the time of publication of this article the collection contains 15,401 issues comprising total 465,191 pages.
From the Independent Voices website - "An Open Access Collection of an Alternative Press":
"Independent Voices is an open access digital collection of alternative press newspapers, magazines and journals, drawn from the special collections of participating libraries. These periodicals were produced by feminists, dissident GIs, campus radicals, Native Americans, anti-war activists, Black Power advocates, Hispanics, LGBT activists, the extreme right-wing press and alternative literary magazines during the latter half of the 20th century."
Whether you are interested in searching for genealogy reasons, or for historical education - it is fascinating reading.
