It was quite a revelation when I first discovered that some of my ancestors actually had applied for and received patents.  Oh, I knew that my father, Robert J Marks had a patent or two for the design of some eyeglass cases, which was his business for over 40 years. And I knew that my great grandfather Isidore Heyman had invented some things as well. My great uncle, Arthur Heyman was a seamster and I knew that he had created the Trik-Skirt.

But I did not know that some of their inventions had been patented, and I also discovered later that my great great grandfather, Louis Marks had 5 patents.

How did I find out?  Watch this video, and you too can find out if your ancestors were inventors!  It's only 6 minutes and the discoveries are wonderful to find.

I always knew my 2 great grandfather was an invented. In addition, the county "brag" book reported that he was an inventor, too. I found his patents several years ago. I like the google feature that shows if the patents were referenced in a later case. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Deborah for visiting. I was quite surprised at a couple of my ancestors having patented inventions.

What a neat data base. Thanks for showing this so clearly, Kenneth! I believe that my late sister (she died at 46, alas) invented a new method for thyroid surgery at the Lahey Clinic in MA. I wonder if this is patent-able. I'll copy your video URL and look that up...

Thanks Mariann. I love this database and have much more research to do there. Good luck with your search for your sister's invention.
